Have a morning routine or start a morning routine soon. This week’s Monday Tip goes hand in hand with last weeks tip. Having a morning routine is so important to my daily accomplishments. My morning routine is in place for four reasons: 1) have easy, small wins at the start of my day; 2) have time in the morning where I don’t have to think too much; 3) do things that won’t get accomplished at the end of the day when i’m tired; and 4) lessen decision fatigue.
My morning routine helps me have small wins in the first hour or so of waking up. Making my bed is an easy first win of the day and I don’t have to think while doing it. I also drink water. I sometimes struggle with drinking enough water during the day. Having a water bottle by my bed and drinking water after taking a quick stretch allows me to trigger a response throughout my day to drink more water. Another win is reading the Bible and typing out my prayer. It reminds me that God needs to be 1st in my life and if I don’t do this in the morning it doesn’t get done at night. I’m still trying to add working out but right now it is a constant struggle.
I don’t do much thinking in the morning, because I am getting to the point when my morning routine gets automatic. I don’t have to make any decisions. I lay my clothes out the night before. I have water by my bed. I brush my teeth and then make my caffeinated drink. Thanks to Notion, I have a daily entry for my morning prayer. I follow a reading plan so I don’t have to think about what I’m reading. I just pull up my app and type it in the right section for my daily reading in my daily entry. The only decision I really make in the morning is if I need to add something to my to-do list.
Your morning routine should help put you in the right mindset to win the rest of the day. It helps me get in right headspace to be productive for the rest of the day. And during this time, it helps everything feel more normal. What’s your morning routine? Let us know.
